Tucked away near the majestic Mount Kinabalu lies Poring Hot Springs Resort, one of Sabah’s most
beloved natural sanctuaries. Located about 40km from Kinabalu Park HQ, this area offers not ju
rejuvenating sulphuric waters but also easy access to some of the most scenic Kinabalu Park
accommodation options.

Right beside the hot springs sits Sutera Sanctuary Lodges, the only accommodation within the park grounds, steps away from the pools and nature trails. It’s one of the most convenient family-friendly lodges in Sabah, where children can explore safely while adults unwind in nature. Staying here means waking up to birdsong, rainforest air, and a front-row seat to nature’s quiet magic.

While many travellers try to explore Poring in just a day or two, the real secret lies in slowing down. A 2-night, 3-day stay gives you time to unwind, soak, and reconnect with the healing rhythms of the rainforest.
Day 1: Arrival and your first soak

Start your journey from Kota Kinabalu in the morning, driving through winding mountain roads toward Ranau. Stop at Kinabalu Park HQ for a coffee or a quick stroll before continuing another hour to Poring.

By mid-afternoon, you’ll reach your Sutera Sanctuary Lodges accommodations, where your rainforest
retreat awaits. After checking in to your Poring rainforest lodge, make your way to the Poring Hot Springs
for your first soothing dip.

To reach the hot pools and swimming area, set in a peaceful forest clearing, you’ll cross a short suspension bridge over the Mamut River, followed by a gentle path lined with ancient trees and a grove of Gigantochloa levis, the giant bamboo species that gave Poring its name.

The springs themselves are a natural wonder: water temperatures in the five main pools range from 49°C to 60°C, bubbling up rich in sulphur and minerals believed to soothe tired muscles and improve circulation. Visitors can enjoy a refreshing dip in the slide pool or rock pool, or soak in sulphurous water channelled into tiled pools and private tubs, surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest.
While access to the springs is managed separately under Sabah Parks and typically closes to day visitors at 3pm, guests staying at Sutera Sanctuary Lodges enjoy extended access until 6pm. Perfect for a quiet, unhurried soak after the crowds have left.

As evening falls, dine at the Rainforest Restaurant or enjoy a quiet meal on your verandah, the gentle hum of the forest becomes your natural lullaby.
Day 2: Nature trails, waterfalls, and canopy adventures

Rise early to the sound of cicadas and enjoy breakfast with a view of the treetops. Begin your day with the Poring Canopy Walkway, a 175m bridge suspended high above the rainforest, best experienced early, when the mist lingers and crowds are few. Afterwards, wander through the Butterfly, Orchid, and Tropic Gardens, each showcasing Borneo’s rare blooms.

If you’re up for adventure, trek to the Kipungit Waterfall for a refreshing dip, or tackle the longer Langanan Waterfall Trail, one of Sabah’s tallest cascades. In the afternoon, join a guided nature walk or unwind with another soak in the warm pools. With luck, you might even spot the elusive Rafflesia keithii in bloom at the nearby Poring Rafflesia Conservation Centre, a rare sight that lasts only a few days each year.
Day 3: Rest, reflection, and return
Before you check out, take one last dip. Guests of Sutera Sanctuary Lodges enjoy the calmest hours; when the mist is low, the pools are quiet, and the rainforest feels like it’s yours alone.
By noon, it’s time to check out and head home, or continue your journey to Kundasang or Kinabalu Park HQ for a mountain-view extension.
