Manukan Island is easily one of Sabah’s most talked-about getaways—and the guest reviews really say it all. Travellers love the easygoing vibe and there is no shortage of things to do in Manukan Island: whether it’s slow beach strolls, lazy swims, or catching that golden glow at Sunset Point.
The ocean activities also get a lot of love. Many guests say snorkelling in Manukan Island is an instant favourite thanks to the clear water and colourful reef life, while others who venture deeper recommend Manukan Island diving as calm conditions make it great for beginners.
Those who stay overnight rave about the Manukan Island accommodation by Sutera Sanctuary Lodges, calling it cozy, peaceful, and the perfect way to enjoy the island once the day-trip bustle fades. But don’t take our word for it—here’s what guests on booking.com have to say.
Richard from the Philippines says…
“Beautiful, chill and unstuffy boutique resort. Unspoiled, serene and relaxing location with private beach and abundant nature both on land and underwater. Very spacious and nicely furnished accommodation. Friendly, attentive and helpful staff.”

Maria from Germany says…
“Friendly attentive staff. Hillside villas area is really tranquil and has excellent views. Food in restaurant was delicious (you have to go to a same one for every meal, so it’s a relief it was a good one). Private beach is pretty and calm and there is a living coral reef further away + plenty of fishies feeding/hiding under the pier. There is a water filter in a room so you don’t have to buy tons of plastic bottles.
“People coming for day trips weren’t bothering at all, they were relatively quiet and mostly stayed in a small area near the pier taking photos or soaking in shallow water. Boat engines spooked some of the marine life though, best snorkelling was before/after boats come and go.”

Zuzana from the United Kingdom says…
“Had a wonderful two days at Manukan island. The resort is in a beautiful spot, one is immersed in nature. The resort has a separate beach to the beach used by day visitors, there were plenty of shaded loungers. The snorkelling was exceptional, we brought our own equipment. The food at the restaurant was nice, prices around 30-60MYR per dish for lunch/dinner, breakfast was included and was delicious.”

Keith from Ireland says…
“It is a little pricey but worth every penny. This place is paradise with wonderful staff and amazing comfort and atmosphere.”

MD from China says…
“The whole experience felt like a tropical escape. The beach was absolutely stunning, crystal clear water, soft sand, and calm waves perfect for swimming. The staff were warm, helpful, and always smiling, making the stay even more relaxing. The breakfast had a good mix of local and international options, and dining by the sea was just beautiful. The view from the room was breathtaking, especially during sunset.”
